But is that really the case? Remember, when you "blank" a hard drive (overwriting it with zero's), you can still recover the previous data by using a magnetic force microscope. Shouldn't a similar process be feasible on blanked CD's? I would assume that there are tiny indentations that remain from a previous burn of a given dimple that might be observable through electron microscopy. Is anyone aware of such research?
