One additional area of certifications not discussed in this thread that should 
be of major concern for the field of forensics is the backing of the 
certification.  As has been mentioned, John Mellon formed the CCE certification 
and still is its major champion; however the CCE is now overseen by an 
independent body, the International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners and 
the certification is in the process of being certified by an outside 
organization.  The ISFCE board is comprised from the membership.

I have so many initials after my name that just another cert means nothing to 
me.  What will actually pay off in the long run is who backs the 
certification and have my potential customers heard of the certification and do 
they respect it.
