| Subject: | MS-DOS stub program question |

I posted this to my blog this morning, but wanted to follow up here, as well... In PE executable files, there is an MS-DOS stub program, added by the linker, prior to the PE header (ie, "PE\0\0"). The stub program contains the message "This program cannot be run in DOS mode" or some variation. This section may also contain additional information (that is, *not* be simply "0x00"), which may contain the letters "Rich". My question is this...if someone is suspected of creating a PE executable (ie, malware), can this stub program information be used to track back to their linker? Thanks in advance... H.
