I think we have a solution to Jeff's problem. The short version is that when reading open files on Windows, like the SAM and its friends, Samba was not issuing the standard "Permission denied" errors that Windows gives. Instead, Samba would allow the file to be opened and then issue a "Text file busy" error instead. I've added a check for that error, and a few others, and posted the new version as a beta to the web.


The new version of md5deep, version 1.6-beta1, also includes whirlpooldeep, a program to compute Whirlpool hashes on files. You can download it at http://md5deep.sf.net/
