Hi Simon (and list),

I had heard of AREA51 but the only downloads I could find were
from hacker sites. Rumor had it that the product had been sold
and was marketed under another name, but I don't recall the new
procuct. In looking for other things to do the trick I found:
(1)
The HPA (also referred to as the MAX LBA or MAX ADDRESS setting)
can also be set/removed with a commercial product BXDR available at http://sandersonforensics.co.uk/BXDR.htm
(2)
Additionally, hard drive manufaturers typically provide a disk utility
(free of charge) and most allow you to set a HPA/MAX LBA value. For example:
MaxBlaster (for MAXTOR HDDs) http://www.storagedrivers.com/drivers/16/16661.htm
Data Lifeguard (Western Digital) at http://support.wdc.com/download/#dlgtools

Hope that helps!

able to write data to a HPA of a Hard Drive. Does
anyone know where I can locate it?

thanks,
