FWIW, one person did respond that they are actually used in the real
world on some classified govt. networks. I could see writing one up and
using it, if the cost of the information justified it, but those have
got to be few and far between. 

The mention of a tricky 'shutdown' command is a good one, but doesn't
address the "I can't see my ethernet loopback packet - lets format!"
scenario.

I guess my point was more about regular hackers, rather than state
sponsored information operations red teams or high-end industrial
espionage, but who knows when you'll stumble on one of those, eh?
