The more books you read the better -- and not just CISSP-specific books -- read 
information security books. Rob Slade posts really excellent reviews 
(http:\\victoria.tc.ca/int-grps/books/techrev/mnbk.htm , thanks Mr Slade!) and 
you should try to get the books that have positive reviews.

Follow sites like rootsecure.net for real world security happenings.
