I agree with Clement, book selection depends much on your
preference. Below is a quick synopsis of my thoughts:

- SRV: Rating: 0. Any time spent reading this will be a waste of
time. The book is absolutely horrible in its approach. It makes easy
concepts seem complex.

- S. Harris All-in-One. Rating: Average. Complete coverage. Some
weak areas include security models, architecture, orange book (and
CC) and crypto. The book provide good explanations but repeats the
same analogies 2 or 3 times. This can be a bit irratating, but
otherwise a good book.

- CISSP Passport. (S. Harris and M. Meyers) Much better. Although it
covers the same material, the book is a lot tighter in its
explanations. All you really need for a basic coverage of the CBK.

- Sybex CISSP Prep. (Ed Tittle, et al) I think this is the best of
the "large" books. Better explanations of complex topics.

- ISC2 "Official". I am still not a fan of this book at all. Despite
its size it does not cover the CBK (read the last few pages of any
chapter and it will tell you that it did not cover the topics and
point to other references). It spends too much time explaining
concepts in far greater detail than required. I can't help but think
of them "defending" the CISSP when reading this book. OK, good job.
This book does make it harder to pass the test than other books.

The SRV books would be very good to light up your fireplace.

The CISSP All In One is very verbose and has tons of details.

The ISC2 guide is written in a way that is not easy to read at all
but it is
the book that matches the exam content the most closely right now.

Which one is best for you greatly depend on your style of reading
and your
experience within the security field.

Best of luck

Clement

Hi,

I am worry with all the material about the CBK for the CISSP. As
all
of you know, the time is limited and i want to know your opinion
about
the CISSP Examination Textbooks from S.Rao Vallabhanemi and Devi
Vallabhaneni.

Which is better that ones or the ISC 2 Guide ?

I also have the All in one - CISSP Certification, and for me is
very
good.

Please your comments.

Regards,

Ana Aguilar
