It depends one what you are wanting to do in the
field. If you are looking at a position as a security
professional knowledgeable in all domains
(managerial), then CISSP is the way you want to go.
If you are more interested in being the resident
expert in a single domain, then GIAC is a better
route.

I believe CISSP is a globally recognized certification
whereas the GIAC certs are not.

Do not be discouraged on not passing the exam the
first time. You now have the advantage of knowing
what to expect the next time you take the exam.

I took the exam on 21 Mar and just received the
results that I passed today. I am now awaiting my
endorsement and certification. In preparation for the
exam, I attended two CISSP prep classes. One was by
ISC2 and the other was presented by James Michael
Stewart (Co-Author CISSP Study Guide 2nd Ed, SYBEX).
I used numerous resources to study (the previously
mentioned book, the ISC2 Official Study Guide, Shon
Harris All-In-One, and The Mike Myers CISSP Passport).

They all provided the information needed to pass the
exam, however, I found the SYBEX book to be very easy
to read and follow that up with the Mkie Myers
Passport for a good refresh overview of all the
domains. Additionally I took the quizzes available
through cccure.org and read answer reviews to ensure I
did indeed understand the question and the answer.
And when taking the exam, as has been stated multiple
times within this discussion group, approach the test
from a manager's prospective and read the questions
several times to ensure you understand what is being
asked before answering. This helped me successfully
pass the exam.
