Harry -
Number One: Make an immediate linux dd backup of the harddrive(s) in
question and lock the original in a safe.
Number Two: Hire a professional to complete the forensics analysis.

Yes there are open source and commercial programs available which will
make hashes of the filesystems and analyze MAC times. Yes there are
tons of resources on the web. But you do NOT want to be teaching
yourself forensics on a harddrive which you plan to use to prosecute
someone. Take the SANS Computer Forensics class to learn to use
shareware tools.
