Any experiences or suggestions to offer would be appreciated! Bill
I took the SSCP exam before taking the CISSP exam. With seven domains instead of ten, the scope of the SSCP is certainly smaller than that of the CISSP. It's not a subset, however. The domains themselves are a somewhat different set, and the subject matter is less policy and more technical. It's a shorter test, too (125 questions in 3 hours for the SSCP, versus 250 questions in 6 hours for the CISSP). If you're a CISSP with some hands-on experience, it shouldn't be a difficult exam for you to pass with a little bit of study. There are several more study guides available now than there were when I was preparing for the SSCP exam. I used the Syngress book, which I believe was the only one available at the time. It did the trick, and came with a DVD video course as well. I can't speak about the other books that are available now, except that I noticed that one of them is available for about 1/10 of its original price, so I would guess you should steer clear of that one (published by Wiley). As to the value of an SSCP certification, I haven't ever had anyone ask if I had one nor be particularly impressed by the fact that I do. Go to your favorite job boards and compare the results of searching for jobs that mention SSCP versus those that mention CISSP, and you'll see which one is more widely recognized.
