1) I've got my exam next week, and I've self studied for around 6 months. The last 4 months I've studied more intensively. I've used; "The official ISC2 study guide" - Very detailed and straight to the point. I bought this because I figured the CBK would be covered accurately given it`s backed by ISC2. "Shon Harris all in 1 CISSP" - Again, a very good book which is very easy to read. I'd recommend this in addition to the ISC2 book. These are both the primary source of info. "CISSP for dummies" - This is a very useful book, it briefly covers the topics and gives instant answers (1 paragraph answers) on subjects. Very good if you've got 30mins and you want to quickly refresh on a domain. It by no means goes into sufficient detail to study the CBK in depth. CCCure - I've done endless sample tests, if I've 5 mins spare at work/home I'll do a quick test. CCNA Study books - I used these for some confirmation/refreshing on networks/telecoms, I had these from when I did my CCNA All the way I've been making notes in a pad, which I use for revision later. All the subjects/questions I've got wrong, I make notes. Notes in a manner which I can remember, e.g. things like TCSEC/ITSEC. I'll be using this as the primary revision material in the days proceeding the exam, obviously with a book or two for reference. I've got 3 books for the CISSP, one tends to be at work, one next to my bed and one in the house. I read it when I travel to work, sometimes on my lunch hour, whenever I get 30mins at home and usually 30mins-1hour before I goto bed. This is pretty much everyday, I sometimes set aside an hour or two at the weekend too, if I get permission from the lady. My main background is in networks/telecoms and application/database development (which has utilising Cryptography in many forms). I tended not to focus on these areas, Law/Ethics, Models and BCP were the areas I focused on. 2) This is a very hard question to answer, I don`t know its possible to answer this - the answer depends on too many variables (position, industry, role, country). I`ve read a few articles on the web on how the CISSP affected an individual`s salary (expressed as a %). The best way to get an indicator is to search a job site for CISSP, and try and match a job to your skills and experience. Find a few jobs and take an average. Even still - this may not be a realworld figure. My primary reason for persuing the CISSP is knowledge and recognition, I like to learn. Although more money would be nice ;) -----Original Message----- From: nilesh thakore [mailto:nilesh_thakore@yahoo.com] Sent: 10 November 2004 18:19 To: CISSP-Discuss@yahoogroups.com Subject: [CISSP-D] New to this group - Two questions Hi friends: New to group - Two question to start CISSP Group 1.
