After looking through my books, it says it is important to understand the 
SSL Protocol works at the TRANSPORT Layer.

Please disregard my previous answer, saying that SSL lives at the Session
layer. Session Layer Protocols: Netbios, RPC, NFS, SQL

In the protocol stack, SSL lies beneath the application layer and above the
transport layer.

So my answer would be: SSL Protocol works at the SESSION Layer.
