[CISSP-D] SSL/TLS - Where in the OSI model?

Subject: [CISSP-D] SSL/TLS - Where in the OSI model?
Date: Tue, 9 Nov 2004 13:00:02 -0000

Hi all

I need some confirmation about where exactly SSL/TLS fits into the OSI
model.

I always presumed SSL/TLS was at the transport layer (hence *transport*
layer security). I've read many references to SSL/TLS existing at the
session layer, the application layer and even the presentation layer! Google
tends to throw up too much "noise".

Can someone provide a definite answer as to where SSL/TLS should be in the
OSI model?

Most sources state Session and others Transport.

Thanks
