FW: [CISSP-D] Basic Security Certification

Subject: FW: [CISSP-D] Basic Security Certification

Good day Kevin,

It is great to see your response considering that you are coming from
TrueSecure.

I was one of the people who were so happy when TrueSecure came out with
their TICSA, TICSE, and the instructor certification. However, it seems
that very quickly after it was announce, the support for it diminished.
After a while the documentation on anything but TICSA became hard to find
and little noise was made about it.

Yes, it is true that it was the FIRST cert of this type out there but today
how many persons are certified as TICSA? Would you have any statistics?
What is the commitment of TrueSecure behind it. At one point it was a one
person commitment, where it was managed by a single person, I think a bit
more might be needed to really make an impact and be considered as a leading
certification.

I was convinced that you would advertise and market it aggressively through
your own magazine but it did not happen. The only advert I have seen you
could not even know it was a TICSA advert unless you were already familiar
with the certification. It is sad because TrueSecure has lots of in the
trench experience that could be passed along through their certification.

Please do not take this message negatively; I am just trying to make up my
mind here about the current status of the certification and the support that
TrueSecure is deploying behind it. I also remember when ISC2 came out
saying that the complimentary certification to the CISSP was TICSA and not
their own SSCP. That was a shocker. In the meantime they have retracted
and they do not seem to be pushing the TICSA cert anymore. Myself I am
really not sure about recommending it to anyone.

Could you tell us what is the status and if you are not the right person,
who could I talk to in order to find an answer to the above questions?

Thanks a whole lot

Clement

Consider also the TICSA -

It's been around longer than Security+ and allows you to avoid the stigma
attached to "+" certifications.

I'd point him towards the Security+. At the very least, studying for
that will get his INFOSEC terminology firmer.

Hi All,
A friend of mine wants to get his foot into the information
security area. What would be a good basic security certification to
get started in information security. Can anyone suggest a simple easy
to pass security certification that you have yourself?

NOTE FROM MODERATOR:

The CISSP certification would be way too overwhelming for your
friend. I would suggest that you take a look at the SSCP certification
from ISC2 or the Security+ certification from CompTIA. They are both
entry level certifiction that would at least give your friends the
foundation he needs to build on.

Best regards

Clement
