Subject: [CISSP-D] SANS class - Surviving Government Regulations
Date: Thu, 09 Sep 2004 17:51:28 -0000
Dear Colleague,

SANS one day course, Surviving Government Regulations, will be offered
in San Francisco, CA, October 15, 2004. This course will explore many
new government regulations relating to security and privacy in clear
and manageable language and compare the complicated new regulations to
real-life factual situations, so you can see exactly what the new
rules will mean to your company and for your clients.

Expectations for security and privacy are expanding rapidly just as
technology creates the possibility of profitable and unprecedented
data sharing. To reduce legal risk while pursuing business
opportunities, you owe it to yourself to understand the many new
requirements, and learn how to act on them. Surviving Government
Regulations will cover many topics, such as Sarbanes-Oxley Act,
Responding to Law Enforcement and National Security Requests, Medical
Privacy and Security Rules.

This course is great for lawyers who need to be up to date on the new
challenging requirements, technologists who have to run systems in the
new regulatory environment and also, Chief Information Officer, Chief
Security Officers, Chief Privacy Officers and those who work with them
will benefit from this one day session. The key to survival is
understanding the new rules and this course will do just that, help
you survive.

Our instructor, Lauren Gelman, is the Associate Director of Stanford
Law School's public interest technology law and policy program,
the Stanford Center for Internet and Society, responsible for the
daily operations of the Center, and for directing and conducting
research on the interaction of new technologies and the law. She
also teaches CS 203 "Understanding and Participating in Cyberlaw and
Policymaking" in Stanford's computer science department. Ms. Gelman
comes to Stanford from Washington, DC where she served as the Public
Policy Director for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the first
on-line civil liberties organization, and as the Associate Director of
Public Policy for ACM, the largest association of computer scientist
in the world. She also rode the dot-come wave as Corporate Counsel
for RealNames Corporation. Ms. Gelman is a frequent speaker on the
integration of new technologies into society. She received a B.S. in
Biology and Society from Cornell University, a M.S. in Science,
Technology and Public Policy from George Washington University,
and her law degree from Georgetown University.

I hope you will consider joining us in San Francisco for this timely
course and if you know of others who would benefit from attending,
please pass on this information.

Warm Regards,
Stephen Northcutt
